What is FTP (file transfer protocol)?

FTP is an acronym that stands for File Transfer Protocol. An FTP client is a program that allows you to easily move files from one computer to another. For more information, see these articles:

In order to use FTP as the primary source, an FTP client must be installed on your computer. If you do not already have an FTP client, there are several free versions that you can download from the Web. We do not endorse any specific FTP clients, but some commonly-used clients are FileZilla Client, Fetch, and WinSCP.
