If you sell on Google Shopping, you can now map Google's conversational attributes directly in GoDataFeed. These optional attributes give AI systems and conversational agents richer detail about your products, helping them surface across AI-driven surfaces like AI Mode in Search while still improving traditional search results. You add them with the same mapping and rules you already use, and because they are optional and complement your existing product data, turning them on does not change the approval status of products you already submit. For the most up to date details on these attributes see How to use conversational attributes from Google.
TL;DR: GoDataFeed added Google's conversational attributes to the Google Shopping feed template. Map each one on the Mapping tab like any other field, enter a static value, or build it with a rule and target all products or specific SKUs. This guide covers
question_and_answer(up to ten question and answer pairs),document_link,related_product,item_group_title,variant_option, andpopularity_rank.
What are Google's conversational attributes?
You do not need to repeat information you already submit. If a detail is already in your description, product_highlight, or product_detail attribute, there is no need to duplicate it in a conversational attribute. For Google's full specification, see How to use conversational attributes.
How do I map conversational attributes in GoDataFeed?
Each conversational attribute appears as a feed field on the Mapping tab of your Google Shopping feed. You can populate it three ways: map it to an existing field, enter a static value, or build it with a rule. Mapping works the same as any other attribute, so no special setup is required.
- Open your Google Shopping feed and go to the Mapping tab.
- Find the conversational attribute field you want to populate. You can use the search box to filter, for example by typing
documentorvariant. - In the Mappings column, select a source field or enter static text, or click the + in the Rules column to build the value with a rule.
When you use a rule, you can apply it to All products or to Some products. Choose Some products to target specific SKUs or any condition you define, which is useful when only part of your catalog needs a given attribute.
How do I add product questions and answers (question_and_answer)?
The question_and_answer attribute holds frequently asked questions about a product and their answers. In GoDataFeed, it is split into twenty feed fields: question1 through question10 and answer1 through answer10. This lets you submit up to ten question and answer pairs per product.
Map your question text to question1 and the matching answer text to answer1, then continue with question2 and answer2 for the next pair, and so on. Fill in only as many pairs as you have. Keeping each question with its matching answer number is what keeps the published output correct.
- On the Mapping tab, locate the question_and_answer - question1 and question_and_answer - answer1 fields.
- To set a value with a rule, click the + in the Rules column for that field. In the rule, SET the field (for example
[F].[question_and_answer - answer1]) TO your value. - Under WHERE, choose All products to apply the value to your whole catalog, or Some products to target specific SKUs or another condition.
- Click SAVE. Repeat for additional pairs (
question2/answer2, and so on) as needed.
How do I add related products (related_product)?
The related_product attribute points to other products in your inventory that relate to this one, such as accessories, spare parts, or substitutes. It is a group attribute: each related product is built from three sub-attributes that GoDataFeed combines into the value Google expects, for example accessory:gtin:811571013579. In GoDataFeed you map the three sub-attributes and the output is generated for you.
GoDataFeed provides five sets of sub-attribute fields, so you can submit up to five related products per item. Each set has three fields:
-
relationship_type: how the other product relates to this one. It accepts six values:
part_of_set,required_part,often_bought_with,substitute,different_brand, andaccessory. -
identifier_type: which kind of identifier you are giving for the related product, either
gtinorid(a product ID from your data source). - identifier: the actual identifier value of the related product, which must match the identifier type you chose.
- On the Mapping tab, search for
relationship_typeto find the related product fields. - For the first related product, map or set relationship_type1, identifier_type1, and identifier1. All three are required for the related product to be valid.
- To add more related products, fill in the next numbered set (relationship_type2, identifier_type2, identifier2, and so on), up to five.
- Click SAVE.
Two rules to keep the value valid: submit all three sub-attributes for each related product, and give each related product its own numbered set rather than listing several identifiers in one field. In the identifier value, use only letters, numbers, underscores, and dashes. Do not use commas, colons, double quotes, or backslashes.
How do I map document_link, item_group_title, variant_option, and popularity_rank?
The remaining four attributes follow the same approach. Map them to a field, enter a static value, or set them with a rule.
document_link
Use document_link to submit PDF documents that contain relevant information about your product, such as a manual or assembly instructions. GoDataFeed provides five fields, document_link1 through document_link5, so you can submit up to five PDF URLs per product. Put one PDF URL in each field, for example https://example.com/manual.pdf.
item_group_title
Use item_group_title to give a single title to a product that comes in multiple variants, for example Google Pixel 9. It works together with the item_group_id attribute, so make sure item_group_id is populated for your variant products. GoDataFeed provides one item_group_title field that you map or set to a static value.
variant_option
Use variant_option to describe the variant-identifying properties of a product that is available in different variants, such as color or size. Each option is a name and value pair, for example a name of color with a value of moonstone. GoDataFeed provides five options, variant_option1 through variant_option5, each with its own name and value field, so you can describe up to five properties per product. Like item_group_title, it works with item_group_id, so populate that attribute for your variant products.
popularity_rank
Use popularity_rank to indicate how popular a product is, ranked as a percentage of your total inventory. A higher value means the product performs better compared to your other products, for example 95.5. GoDataFeed provides one popularity_rank field that you map or set with a rule.

| Google attribute | GoDataFeed field(s) | What to enter |
|---|---|---|
question_and_answer |
question1 through question10, answer1 through answer10
|
Up to ten question and answer pairs. Keep each question with its matching answer number. |

|
One PDF URL per field, up to five. |
related_product |
relationship_type1–5, identifier_type1–5, identifier1–5
|
Up to five related products. Set all three sub-attributes per product, for example accessory, gtin, and 811571013579. |
item_group_title |
item_group_title |
One title for a variant family. Requires item_group_id. |
variant_option |
variant_option1 through variant_option5 (name and value each) |
Up to five name and value pairs, for example color and moonstone. Requires item_group_id. |
popularity_rank |
popularity_rank |
A percentage of total inventory. Higher performs better, for example 95.5. |
Frequently asked questions
Do conversational attributes affect whether my products get approved?
No. Conversational attributes are optional and complement your existing product data. Adding them does not change the approval status of products you already submit to Google Merchant Center.
Do I have to fill in all ten question and answer pairs?
No. Map only as many pairs as you need. Start with question1 and answer1, and add more pairs only if you have additional questions worth answering for that product.
How do I add more than one related product?
Use a separate numbered set of fields for each related product. Fill in relationship_type1, identifier_type1, and identifier1 for the first, then the number 2 set for the second, and so on, up to five. Do not list multiple identifiers in a single field.
Can I apply conversational attributes to only some products?
Yes. Build a rule for the field and set the condition to Some products. You can target specific SKUs or any condition you define, so only the part of your catalog that needs the attribute receives it.
What do I need before I can use item_group_title and variant_option?
These two attributes describe products that come in multiple variants, and they work together with the item_group_id attribute. Make sure item_group_id is populated for your variant products before you map them.
